Just think of the fun you can have with these maple and oak leaf cut outs! Each leaf measures about 4-4.5 inches across at the widest part. You will receive 15 total leaves cut out in assorted autumn plaid fabrics PLUS a few bonus acorn nut cut outs. You can apply these in a rag stitch method described below or they can be zigzag stitched for a more traditional applique.
With small pre-cut appliques like this, you will want to stitch very close to the edge, about 1/8 or 1/4 inch. Then randomly clip the exposed edges in any place where there is a corner or curve to help facilitate the fraying. Machine wash the completed project with some liquid fabric softener and the edges of your appliques will fluff up nicely! This technique only works with homespun fabric. Regular cotton does not fray well.
